Strategies for the Retention and Success of Female Students in Higher Education Information and Communication Technology Courses
Abstract
This paper presents a set of strategies that can be adopted to combat the evasion and retention of female students in higher education courses of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and, consequently, to promote women’s participation in the area. Such strategies range from actions such as lectures and ludic activities, to technical training of students to participate in programming competitions and projects with high technological impact. The strategies were applied with around 30 female students of the Bachelor of Computer Science at the IFCE Campus Aracati and have already resulted in highlights and awards obtained through competitions in the area of ICT, as well as providing spaces to foster the importance of studies and gender equality.
