Female participation in computing courses: a study at the Institute of Computing, Federal University of Amazonas
Abstract
In this work, we presented quantitative and some qualitative aspects of female participation in computing courses of the Federal University of Amazonas (IComp/UFAM) both in undergraduate and graduate courses. It was observed aspects related to the entrance, permanence and graduation of such students, in comparison with the total group of university students. In addition, for the college freshman women admitted in 2017, were carried out analyzes of the profile, previous academic education and preferences of each one, to better understand why they chose to study computing in higher education, what they expect from the course and expectations for their professional careers.
