“I think i’ve really given up on becoming a doctor”: Insights from a Programming Course for Girls

Abstract


This paper presents the Zup Code Camp for Minas, developed at Zup Innovation in 2024. The project aimed to influence the career prospects of girls from public schools, fostering inclusion in the technology sector, historically marked by gender inequalities. With 80% retention among the 49 initial participants, the project taught programming logic and promoted female representation in a welcoming environment. The results reflect the importance of safe spaces, practical methodologies, and female role models to transform career prospects.
