Promoting Female Inclusion in Computing Through Robotics: Experience Report from the Digital Sisters Robotics Challenge

Abstract

The participation of women in STEAM remains low, particularly in computing fields. The Mermãs Digitais project, an initiative of IFMA - Campus Imperatriz in partnership with the Sociedade Brasileira da Computação (SBC), aims to bridge this gap through workshops, lectures, and robotics competitions. The Mermãs Digitais engages girls in practical activities that promote programming, electronics, and teamwork. This paper presents an experience report on the event’s organization and outcomes, highlighting its impact on participants. The results show a significant increase in interest and engagement, reinforcing robotics as an effective strategy for fostering female inclusion in computing.
