Implementation of an Open Source Private 5G Network: An Analysis of the Open5GS Core
Abstract
This work investigates the implementation and experimental evaluation of a private 5G network using open-source technologies, with a focus on the 5G Core. First, a comparative analysis of the main open-source solutions is conducted, identifying Open5GS as the most widely adopted option due to its stability and comprehensive documentation, as frequently reported in the literature. Based on this analysis, an experimental architecture is proposed using Open5GS, integrated with UERANSIM for RAN simulation. The environment was deployed on the virtualized infrastructure provided by openRAN Brasil, enabling functional validation of the Core and the execution of performance tests. The results demonstrate the feasibility of open-source solutions for private 5G networks, highlighting their potential for experimentation in Future Internet scenarios, with low cost and high flexibility.
