Characterization of the Dynamic Properties of the SopCast Overlay Network Structure
Abstract
Peer-to-Peer video streaming systems are becoming increasingly popular. Despite several studies on network overlay and user behavior, little is still known about how the overlay network evolves during a live streaming transmission. In this work we present a network dynamic characterization under two different perspectives: the individual nodes and the overlay network characteristics. We have used complex network metrics such as node centric metrics and network topology properties. Our results show that network nodes may be grouped into 3 distinct clusters. Moverover, network topology metrics tend to be stable during the transmission. The characterization we show may be used as a substrate to future research and system simulation, as it can be used to generate a more realistic synthetic workload.References
