Abstract

This article presents the process of building a virtual solar observatory for sharing solar information and knowledge in virtual environments, based on the fourth paradigm set by Jim Gray on scientific discoveries in the era of eScience. The ontology of a computational domain and the specific methodology called ”Methontology”guided the construction of the knowledge representation model based on ontologies built in software Protégé. The development of this environment resulted in the creation of an expandable and reconfigurable portal with pluggable web services available through the construction of an interoperable software that allows the sharing of reliable solar data in its current version.
