"Navigating is necessary": the Programming Experience Continuum with the Web
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the implications of the Web experience on university Computing students in solving programming problems. The initial concern is discussed considering Dewey’s theory and its basis on experience and its relation to continuity and interaction. The methodology includes: (1) data from a questionnaire applied to undergraduate students (n=149 answers) shows evidence concerning the experience based on the importance, satisfaction and indispensability attributed to the Web; (2) data from interviews reveal implications based on their relation with the Web. We observed that students feel their Web experience as positive and are aware that it may present good and bad implications, as well.
