Abstract

Studies in Requirements Engineering have revealed that the natural language models that are built largely depend on the people involved, resulting in significant differences between versions of the same model built by different authors. Furthermore, the manner in which information is obtained from the application context influences the modeling process. To understand the nature of this dependency, surveys included in a controlled experiment were conducted with requirements engineers. They independently used a natural language model construction process and participated as interviewers and modelers. The surveys were designed to analyze engineers’ perception of the activity carried out and their relationship with their models. This allowed us to outline preliminary guidelines for the development of interviews and the use of natural language modeling processes, aimed at mitigating the of engineers’ biases in their work.
