MSBSD: An Algorithm for Fast Decision Making in Inter-Prediction in HEVC Encoders
Abstract
This paper presents the Motion Similarity Border Strength Decision (MSBSD) algorithm, which is a method to reduce the HEVC inter-prediction complexity through PU partition decision. The solution proposed in this work consists in avoiding several Motion Estimation searches during the inter-prediction in order to reduce execution time in the overall encoding process. The proposed method was implemented in the HM test model 5.1 and provides an execution time reduction of 37.11% on average with insignificant rate-distortion losses (0.006 dB quality drop and 0.948% bitrate increase in the average case). When compared other fast decision methods, MSBSD shows
