Culture, Connections, and Decoloniality: Who Is the Human at the Center of Human-Computer Interaction?
Abstract
Introduction: This article discusses the Grand Research Challenges in Human-computer Interaction (HCI) in the areas of plurality, decoloniality, and the ethics of artificial intelligence. Objective: To question who the “human” at the center of HCI is and to recognize peripheral, indigenous, and Amazonian populations as active agents in technological production. Methodology: Based on research from 2024–2025 on UX, AI, and disinformation, pointing out the limits of traditional approaches and proposing participatory methodologies and critical training. Results: COP30 in Belém is highlighted as an opportunity to debate climate and technological justice and strengthen a plural and decolonial HCI.
