Therapeutic Digital Game Design by End Users with Mental Disorders Mediated by Intelligent Agents
Abstract
The Flexible and Sustainable Interaction Lab is building a tool that aims to enable game development by end users. The tool was not developed for therapeutic purposes, but was applied to patients from the Center for Psychosocial Care Alcohol and Drugs of São Carlos - SP. This application was tutored by human agents (computer professionals and CAPS-AD therapists), who observed potential research to analyze their therapeutic reflex in patients. Within this context, the objective of this work is to investigate the design of therapeutic digital games by end users with mental disorders. Following the results of this research, we will seek to propose a solution to support end users with mental disorders to design and program therapeutic digital games, without the need for the physical presence of computer professionals. The paper also seeks to investigate whether the act of building games can indeed assist in treating patients. Focusing on the proposed objectives, literature searches are being performed to identify the state of the art related to the theme. In parallel, a research using the action research method will be applied, aiming to identify the difficulties of end users (patients) in constructing the design and implementing therapeutic digital games. After qualitative analysis of the collected data, a solution will be proposed and it will be evaluated through a case study.
