Multivariate Statistical Analysis of Brain Images from Control Subjects and Patients with Alzheimer’s and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Abstract


This paper presents a comparative study of MR brain images between controls and subjects previously diagnosed with Alzheimer, and Obsessive-compulsive disorder. Using these MR images, we investigate a multivariate statistical framework proposed recently which is composed of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Maximum uncertainty Linear Discriminant Analysis (MLDA) methods. Our experimental results have shown that this multivariate framework extracts relevant changes between the groups. We discuss also the benefit of using multivariate statistical models in the medical field leading clinicians to an automated detection of abnormalities that may be beneficial for understanding such brain disorders.
