The Proceedings of the 19th Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering (SBES 2005) bring the papers selected and presented in the edition of the event held in Uberlândia/MG, from October 03-07, 2005, as part of the 20th Brazilian Symposium on Databases (SBBD 2005). In this issue, the proceedings include 21 full papers. These papers were selected through a peer-review, from a total of 115 full papers submitted, which implied an acceptance rate of 18.2%. The event's program committee was coordinated by Arndt von Staa (PUC-Rio), who organized this volume.
