Business Model for Independent Studios in Game Software Ecosystems

Abstract

The growth of the network of game players has resulted in the creation of common technological platforms on which players and products interact, which has been explored under the prism of Game Software Ecosystems (GSECO). However, this exponential growth brings challenges such as the lack of knowledge about the management and operation of the business, which directly affects the sustainability capacity of independent studios. Based on studies of the Brazilian context, this dissertation presents the Game Software Ecosystem Business Model (GSECO-BM). The model focused on independent studios, emerged from a Systematic Literature Mapping and a survey of 200 specialists in the Brazilian market. Finally, the researchers evaluated GSECO-BM through 15 interviews with game experts.
