Abstract

This article presents a brief study of the discovery mechanic, commonly used in action games, focusing on the Stealth subgenre. This is how the game's Artificial Intelligence seeks out and reveals the player as he tries to hide. To this end, we gathered a total of 10 games in which this mechanic is used and analyzed its effectiveness in terms of gameplay and player immersion. Two main uses (by cone of vision and detection by sound) were found and discussed, in order to help the reflection on the different ways of implementing mechanics that generate the flagrant experience.
