Math Suggestion: A Learning Object Recommendation Tool Based on the Principles of Self-Efficacy Assessments and Performance Analysis

Abstract

This paper presents Math Suggestion, a tool that aims to enable theelaboration and application of a diagnostic evaluation using self-efficacy andperformance to recommends Learning Objects (LOs) based on the abilities andlimitations of the students. For the recommendation, the tool uses the conceptsof pedagogical approaches based on the theory of self-efficacy and performance. In addition to the description of the tool, this paper also presents experiments, applied to incoming students from three higher courses, with the purpose ofevaluating the utility perception of the tool. Results showed that this proposalcan positively impact students’ learning and also influence their behavior.

Keywords: Recommendation of learning objects, self-efficacy, performance
