Teaching Computing in Basic Education: Where is Paulo Freire?

Abstract

Teaching Computing at school has been the subject of numerous discussions, being the focus of recent educational policies in several countries. However, educating students in the area is going beyond problem solving, discussing critical aspects and the social impact that Computing can have on society. In this context, this research seeks to map Computing practices at school that aim to enable students' critical computational expression. The findings of this research indicate that the theme is still incipient, but its results are promising, configuring the teaching of Computing at school as an instrument of social transformation.
