Web tool for braille character recognition support for sighted users
Abstract
This paper presents a web tool called AprendaBraille, developed to assist sighted people in learning Braille, with a focus on educational professionals. The research evaluated the effectiveness of the tool through a study with 25 participants, using two structured questionnaires, one before and one after the use of the tool. The data collected were analyzed using the Wilcoxon statistical test (with a 5% significance level) and the Hake Gain method (to verify the percentage of learning gain). As a result, the sample provided statistical evidence that the difference between the pre- and post-test medians was significantly different (p < 0.001), with 80% of the participants showing a high learning gain. It is concluded that the tool can effectively contribute to the learning of Braille characters.
