Words in the Air: A Digital Game for Discovering New Words and Their Meanings to Support Literacy

Abstract


Language shapes and is shaped by the individuals' thoughts, so a good language Knowledge provides essential skills for all areas. This article describes the development and application of a digital game focused on the Portuguese language content teaching during elementary school - which can be adapted to teach any language - focusing more on grades from 2nd to 7th grade. The game has 3 modes of play, aiming to address different concepts of the language, achieving a high acceptance rate and satisfactory results during its evaluation. In its creation was used the Unity graphics engine in order to make it available with support for multiple operating systems.
