Use of virtual reality in the assessment of clinical skills in teaching medical practice

Abstract

To train qualified healthcare professionals, extensive knowledge of clinical skills is necessary. This work presents a methodology for training and evaluating clinical skills using virtual reality. With the virtual patient, it is possible to conduct a patient evaluation, where the user can perform anamnesis physical examinations, request X-rays, and ultimately arrive at a diagnosis. Medical trainees evaluated this methodology, and the results indicate that the proposed training and assessment format is promising and could even be used to replace the Revalida exam as a means of verifying the medical training of doctors trained abroad.
