m-Participation: A Model to help increase citizen participation in government decision-making
Abstract
The low participation rate of the population in support of government decisions through democratic processes is a negative influence for democracy, since the means used today are not available for most of the population, due to difficulty of access or difficulty of use. In order to reduce this problem, this paper proposes the use of cell phones and other mobile devices as a means to bring government closer to the citizens and increase participation of society in government decisions. Consequently, the goal of this proposal is also to make the government aware of the potential in mobile devices to transcend the traditional models of democracy.
