Report on the Use of Computational Tools as Assistive Technologies in Teaching/Learning for People with Visual disability

Abstract

This work presents a website developed by a blind computer science student. The website, <http://deficiencia.org> is a practical initiative of compiling contents of interest from other students with any sort of disability as well as teachers from the sciences and technologies area. It is based on the experience of the first author who is also the developer of the website, born from the non-observance of accessible content on technologies and from the exact sciences. Their teaching and/or learning are reported, and the constructed solution is described. We believe it to be an unique initiative that can encourage fellow disabled people to seek out academic formation in exact sciences, which is scarcely observed nowadays.
