Women's perception of programming - Django Girls Programming Workshops

  • Myrian Noguera Salinas Girls Code

Abstract

Numerous initiatives have sought to attract girls and women to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers through different workshops. This paper aims to report on the experience of workshops developed with high school girls and adult women from Paraguay and Uruguay during the years 2018 and 2019. The workshops included the creation of a Web Blog with HTML/CSS, Python and Django Web Framework, as well as lectures and debates about prominent female personalities, as well as female insertion in technology. Perception questionnaires were applied where the data obtained is also presented, analyzed and discussed.
