Analysis of Female Participation in Higher Education Computing Programs at IFPE

Abstract

Although Brazilian women generally have a higher level of education than men, they still represent a minority in enrollments and job positions in the field of Computing and Information Technology (IT). In this context, this study aims to understand female participation in higher education Computing programs at IFPE through the analysis of microdata from the Higher Education Census provided by INEP. The results indicate that, between 2009 and 2022, the number of female entrants, enrolled students, and graduates was lower than that of men. However, completion rates are low for both genders. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the development of institutional strategies to overcome the challenges identified.
