Abstract

Robotics as a pedagogical resource has been gaining space in school curricula along with active approaches and methodologies that aim to provide students with spaces and times for the development of youth protagonism and the skills and abilities needed by 21st century citizens. The purpose of this article is to report and share the experience of the Robotics at School project developed with elementary school students in the municipal schools of Tramandaí, a coastal region in Rio Grande do Sul. This project marks the initiative of this municipality to implement robotics for all units schools offering training for managers and teachers and the necessary pedagogical and technical support. The 12-month project aimed to implement robotics as a pedagogical resource and included the stages of raising awareness among managers, inaugural class, teacher training, registration for the Knowledge Fair and the Knowledge Fair. The project directly involved 10 schools, 41 teachers, 163 students and resulted in the presentation of 21 interdisciplinary projects developed from Project Based Learning and STEAM Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. The project provided those involved with the first steps in the world of programming, electronics, and robotics, integrating competencies and skills from the National Common Curricular Base. At the end of the Robotics at School project, teachers and students had profound experiences in building projects involving research on topics closely linked to their community. The connection of the projects with the reality of the school community and its link with the proposed learning objectives allowed that artifacts full of meaning, such as the construction of a model with ideas to improve wheelchair access to the beach, a glove, were presented at the Knowledge Fair. intelligent to assist the blind in moving around the city and even the construction of a memory game capable of exercising not only memory, but the whole body in physical education classes.
