Educational Robotics and 21st Century Skills: A case study with high school students

Abstract


Among the various possibilities for using computing in class, educational robotics emerges as an alternative that can help develop 21st century skills and students' attitudes towards technology. This paper describes an experience of using low-cost educational robotics for regular high school students from public schools. Our observations point to the possibility of applying concepts on demand and by exploration, the construction of low cost products and the efficient development of robotics activities. On the other hand, the lack of infrastructure at school limited the development of activities. In general, students showed a positive attitude towards robotics and the development of their skills, but in some particular topics, what was measured in these aspects differs from some observations made by the researcher-instructor. We hope that this experience will help researchers and teachers in the application of robotics in other contexts and explore in a deeper way its relationships with 21st century skills.
