Abstract

Literature reviews are an important stage in the execution of any research. These reviews are being prepared through systematic methods, by performing secondary studies. The execution of secondary studies allows: identifying relevant publications; identifying new research opportunities; summarizing existent evidence; and improving the possibility of replication, by including new publications. This short course presents the process of performing secondary studies in HCI to be applied by students, researchers and/or practitioners interested in identifying the state of the art in a given research topic. In the theoretical part of this course, we will present the goals and basis to secondary studies, including a description of concepts and steps necessary for their execution. In the practical part of this course, we will present tools to support its execution process and examples to be analyzed in activities with the participants.

Keywords: Systematic Literature Review, Systematic Mapping Study, Secondary Studies, Short Course.
