The Proceedings of the 1st Workshop on Social, Human and Economic Aspects of Software (WASHES 2016) bring the papers selected and presented in the edition of the event held in Maceió, on October 25. In this issue, the proceedings include 6 full papers, 3 short papers, and 3 posters. These papers were selected through a blind peer-review process, from a total of 22 full papers submitted, which implied an acceptance rate of 27% of the full papers. The event's program committee was coordinated by Sabrina Marczak, Igor Steinmacher, Davi Viana, and Rodrigo Santos, who organized this volume. The articles in this volume were submitted on August 22, accepted for publication on September 2, with the final version submitted on September 8.
