The Proceedings of the 11th Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering (SBES 1997) bring the papers selected and presented in the edition of the event held in Recife/PE, from October 15-17, 1997. In this issue, the proceedings include 38 papers. These papers were selected through a peer-review. The event's program committee was coordinated by Marcos Borges (UFC), who organized this volume. The event's organizing committee was coordinated by Antônio Mauro Barbosa de Oliveira (CEFET-CE).
