Application of mini UAVs in full-scale 3D models for heritage preservation of historic buildings
Abstract
The historical and cultural past of a city is the key point of the concept of intelligent cities, because the past is linked to how the city is seen and its consolidation. Therefore the preservation of historical structures, buildings and cultural assets is of great importance. This article presents a methodology for 3D reconstruction of a historic building by photogrametry with small, unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) for later 3D reconstruction for the Babylonian Palacet. The object of study is a historical construction of the year 1866, located in the Military High School of Rio de Janeiro. Three mini-drone models were used, testing applications of flight mission planning and execution, use of different software for the generation of 3D model reconstruction, model adjustments and the printing of the three-dimensional model generated in order to preserve historical construction.
