Computing and the World: A Proposal of Computing Education for the Ninth Grade of Middle School

Abstract

This work describes a proposal of curriculum and a textbook for the ninth grade of middle school, based on guidelines and reference curricula from the field, aiming to popularize the adoption of computing in basic education. The book combines simulations in a block-based language, image manipulation aided by a text-based programming language, the development of textual games and the construction of prototypes based on free hardware, using contexts familiar to students and a spiral learning approach.
Keywords: computational thinking, programming, textbook
