Does teaching design thinking help in the development of original applications in the context of computing education?
Abstract
Creativity is an essential skill of the 21st century. The application of design thinking supports the development of creative and original solutions in diverse areas, however, there is a lack of empirical evidence within the area of computing education. Therefore, this article presents an analysis of whether teaching design thinking helps develop original applications through a series of case studies in undergraduate and graduate computing courses. Results of a subjective and objective evaluation indicate that teaching design thinking can contribute to the development of creative skills as part of computing education.
