RIPSim - A Simulator for the RIP Routing Protocol
Abstract
This article presents RIPSim, a RIP simulator developed using the Unity game engine. Its requirements were derived from observations about the tools traditionally used in the study of that protocol which spotted some required functionalities. Despite being restricted to built-in scenarios, RIPSim allows its users to visualize route transmission animations and their instantaneous impacts on routing tables of the routers in those scenarios. Moreover, it is possible to set packet flows any time and to block links between routers to observe its effects. Those functionalities make RIPSim a tool complementary to those ones already used.
