Implementação de Estratégias de Handover em um Ambiente de Simulação para Open RAN
Abstract
The Open RAN (O-RAN) architecture promotes the Radio Access Network (RAN) disaggregation, by using non-proprietary interfaces and introducing intelligent RAN controllers (RICs). The O-RAN presents several research challenges, primarily related to the RIC applications that optimize the RAN performance. Handover is a fundamental element defined in the O-RAN use cases. In this work, we study the O-RAN architecture and propose a mechanism of handover. The ns-3 simulator was updated to support the O-RAN handover process. Simulation results show that the handover can be managed remotely by the RIC without severely impacting the service. Alternatively, there is an excessive number of requests if the cell triggers the handover and offloads the target cell decision to the RIC.
