Tooth Segmentation in Periapical Radiographic Images Using a Gradient Method Adaptation

Abstract


As an individual ages, the incidence of caries increases. As such, the precocious detection of these lesions is important to conduct treatment. Caries detection are generally helped by radiographic images. Various computational methods have been proposed for this end. This article proposes a method of tooth segmentation in periapical radiographic images, utilizing a technique called gradient method. This article uses an imagem base with around 235 images, of which 20 were used for tests. The results found were promissing, but there is still a necessity to improve even more the technique used.
