The Proceedings of the 9th Medical Informatics Workshop (WIM 2009) bring the papers selected and presented in the edition of the event held in Bento Gonçalves/RS, Brazil, from July 20 to 24, 2009, as part of the 29th Brazilian Computing Society Congress (CSBC 2009), which had the theme "The Grand Scientific Challenges and the Impacts of Computing on Society." In this issue, the proceedings include 19 full papers and 08 short papers. These papers were selected through a peer review. The event's program committee was coordinated by Márcia Ito (CEETPS), who organized this volume. The articles in this volume were submitted on 03/20/2009, accepted for publication on 04/20/2009, with the final version submitted on 05/18/2009.
