Abstract

The Sun SPOT Technology, Small Programmable Object, developed by Sun Microsystems, promises to be new possibility in world of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), considering it implements the ZigBee technology (IEEE 802.15.4). This work presents an analisis of the physical capabilities of the ZigBee implementation by the Sun SPOTs, aiming at the possible distances that devices are able to transmit and receive data. The main objective is to provide practical and real numbers which help the development of other applications based on localization, positioning and movement of devices on the network.
