Multi-Policy Approach for Routing, Modulation, and Dynamic Core and Spectrum Allocation in SDM-EONs

Abstract


New applications that demand faster and more flexible connections drive the growth in internet traffic and push the limits of the current generation optical network architecture. In this scenario, Space Division Multiplexing Elastic Optical Networks (SDM-EONs) emerge as a promising candidate to replace and improve the current architecture, as their finer granularity allows for greater capacity and higher transmission rates. In this article, we propose three core and spectrum allocation policies for SDM-EONs to address bandwidth blocking, fragmentation and intercore crosstalk. Simulation results showed that the proposed approaches outperformed existing methods in the metrics tested for broad load intervals.
