Abstract

Collaboration via Web shapes new relationships between citizens and governments as well as opens space for the emergence of new forms of public service. It is therefore increasingly important, the creation of tools for easing the development, by the Internet users, of applications to carry out these services. In this paper, we propose an innovative way to do this by the design and implementation of a site that assists in the generation of collaborative maps. These maps are an important resource for strengthening the citizen-government relationship via the Internet. We describe the main features of the site as well as of the maps it generates, in particular the features that allow interaction between people and are fueling popular participation. We conclude with examples of collaborative maps that have been used to represent complaints of sound pollution and trash in the streets.
