Socioenactive Design of Interactive Installations on Deep Time: a Case Study

Abstract

New technologies and practices constantly transform our interaction with computing systems. Currently, movements and theories such as speculative design and embodied cognition present unconventional perspectives and bring debates to the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In the InsTime project, 9 interactive installations about deep time were co-designed. In this extended abstract, we summarize the types of artifacts and attitudes toward interactive systems design that emerged from the project. A juxtaposed analysis with foundations in philosophy of science, speculative design and embodied cognition led us to characterize an attitude towards design that we call socioenactive design.
