Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to present the results of the institutionalization of a research and outreach laboratory focused on Business Process Management (BPM) automation in a public Higher Education Institution (HEI). It seeks to discuss the relevance of BPM for HEI management, as well as the governance and technology possibilities with the adoption of a custom business process lifecycle method, and also the automation of its processes using a open-source BPM System. The processes were automated in three action research cycles. Preliminary results demonstrate greater flexibility in process updating for public institutions; on the other hand, they also present acceptance difficulties more related to organizational culture, in addition to other observations presented in the conclusions.
