TweeTraffic: Traffic Analysis Tool Based on Twitter Information

Abstract


Transit in large metropolises has intensified at an ever faster pace. As a consequence, many cities, such as Rio de Janeiro, suffer from congestion. This project aims to show that Twitter can be an important source of data in daily commute planning. The reports of the drivers, as well as news from official sources, are processed and from them we infer the conditions of the traffic. Two evaluations were performed - one qualitative and the other quantitative - and in both cases the results were satisfactory.
