The Proceedings of the 36th Brazilian Symposium on Databases (SBBD 2021) bring the papers selected and presented in the online edition of the event held in Rio de Janeiro, from October 4-8, 2021. In this issue, the proceedings contain 22 full papers and 18 short papers. These papers were selected through a double-blind review process, from a total of 42 full papers and 30 short papers submitted, which implied an acceptance rate of 52.38% and 50.00%, respectively. The other three papers, originally submitted to the full paper track, were accepted as short. The Full paper program committee was coordinated by Ricardo Torres (NTNU, Norway and WUR, The Netherlands), and the Short, Vision, and Industrial program committee was coordinated by Damires Souza (IFPB), who organized this volume. The full papers in this volume were submitted by 07/04/2021, accepted for publication on 08/25/2021, with the final version submitted on 09/01/2021. The short, vision, and industrial papers in this volume, in turn, were submitted on 07/26/2021, accepted for publication on 09/02/2021, with the final version submitted on 09/17/2021.
