The Proceedings of the 1st Brazilian Symposium on Software Quality (SBQS 2002) bring the papers selected and presented in the Gramado/RS. In this issue, the proceedings include 22 full papers. These papers were selected through a blind review. The event's program committee was coordinated by Ricardo de Almeida Falbo (UFES) who organized this volume.
