The Proceedings of the 5th Workshop on Social, Human and Economic Aspects of Software (WASHES 2020) bring the papers selected and presented in the online edition of the event, on November 16 to 20, as part of the 40th Brazilian Computing Society Congress (CSBC 2020) which had the theme "Artificially human or Humanly artificial? Challenges for society 5.0". In this issue, the proceedings include 11 full papers and 3 short papers. These papers were selected through a double-blind peer-review process, from a total of 28 full papers and 4 short papers submitted, which implied an acceptance rate of 39% for full papers. The event's program committee was coordinated by Igor Steinmacher (NAU/UTFPR) and Awdren Fontão (UFMS), who organized this volume. The articles in this volume were submitted on April 30, accepted for publication on June 9, with the final version submitted on June 30.
