A Pre- and Intra-Pandemic Interpretative Analysis of Data of Social Networks in the Religious Domain
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted people's behavior in the religious domain, in which social support and the relationship between members of faith communities were restricted by social distance. In this scenario, social networks have enhanced the interaction between people mediated by technology. This work aimed to identify changes in behavior and demands related to religion and spirituality caused by the COVID-19 pandemic by observing the interaction between users on social networks before and after starting the pandemic. The non-participant observation technique was used, with the subsequent visualization of data in word clouds and an interpretative and qualitative analysis based on the messages collected. The results showed an increasing religious demand via social networks, indicating that specialized platforms in this domain could add value to the engagement between the faithful and their communities.
