Exploratory Investigation of Alternative Communication Interfaces for Reducing the Communication Gap

Abstract


Introduction: This paper presents initial exploratory research into the development of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tool interfaces for nonverbal users. Objective: To bridge the communication gap through layouts based on the PODD (Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display) model. Methodology: Desk research; followed by prototyping supported by card sorting and evaluated by an expert. Results: A high-fidelity prototype was proposed to address the limitations of existing tools. Next steps include incorporating Artificial Intelligence capabilities and validation with the target audience.
